Once Upon a Time . . .

Once Upon a Time. . . there was a person who lived and worked in America, and he was happy.  Let’s call him Warren.  He had a job, and a nice family, and many years (knock on wood) to live before he could stop working and relax.  He was content.

But what Warren didn’t know was what he would do when his working years ended.  It was hard for him to picture things that far in the future.  What would it be like several decades from now?

He only thought about these things once in a while, since there were so many current and urgent things to attend to now.  He had family obligations, work demands, social engagements.

All of these things took up his bandwidth.  And besides, there was virtually nothing around in his world that would prompt him to think about what to do in retirement.  No one talked about it, since it was a confusing and complicated topic.  No one shared any info on what they were doing for retirement planning, since almost no one else spent time on it either.  The few professional people who did focus on retirement were not really interested in dealing with Warren.  And when he did hear the experts talk, they used lots of complicated language, and talked about confusing and boring things that Warren just could not relate to.

So, Warren just didn’t think about it or do anything about his retirement.  He will just worry about it when the time comes to retire.
